Our take on pets at public events.
You might think we believe that pets should be everywhere all the time, but that’s not necessarily the smart way to be pet-inclusive. Part of being pet-inclusive includes appropriate limits that engender broad support for pets in our community generally.
We agree with the City of Novato’s policy that pets aren’t allowed at public events, because that exposes them to hot pavement, crowds that can step on or trip over them, loud unfamiliar noise, and a lack of appropriate pet relief areas. And Novato’s farmer’s market must also be pet-free to comply with state law regarding animals at food sites.
Of course, Service Animals are not included in these pet policies.
There are numerous Novato events that are designed for pets, like Marin Humane’s Woofstock festival and Tails by Twilight events. And don’t forget our city’s outstanding Dogbone Meadow and extensive trail system which allows dogs to accompany their guardians on many beautiful hikes.
